The Golden State Warriors’ Draymond Green assumed his team was going to meet the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals. And in doing so, he may have inspired the Miami Heat, and created a little rivalry in the process.
Following the Warriors’ Game 5 victory over the Dallas Mavericks, which wrapped up their Western Conference Finals series, the crew at Inside the NBA asked Draymond which team he would prefer to play in the finals between the Heat and the Celtics.
“You’re asking me who I wanna play. I’m gonna tell you who I think we’re gonna play,” Green responded. “We’re gonna play Boston.”
If you thought the Heat weren’t watching that interview, think again.
Following their hard-fought Game 6 victory at the TD Garden to force a Game 7 back in South Beach, Heat benchwarmer Udonis Haslem approached ESPN’s Marc Jackson, asking him to relay a message to the Warriors’ power forward.
“He wants a message to be relayed,” Jackson told the audience. “He said, tell Draymond Green, ‘Thank You.’ Draymond Green said, ‘We’re going to play the Boston Celtics.’ Udonis Haslem walked over and says, ‘Thank you for the inspiration.’”

You just know that Haslem was waiting the entire game, hoping he’d get an opportunity to fire that shot at Green if his team won. But perhaps he should have saved it, as the Heat still have to win one more game if they want to book a date with Draymond’s Warriors in the NBA Finals.
