Jimmy Butler sustained a knee injury during the Play-In Tournament game against the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night, 105-104. The seasoned forward informed reporters following the game that he will have an MRI on Thursday. He finished with 19 points, five assists, five steals, and four rebounds but only shot 5-of-18 from the field, per the NBA website.
While going up for a layup in the first quarter, Butler became hurt. Kelly Oubre Jr. of Philadelphia bit off a pump fake and fell on Butler’s leg. Butler completed 40 minutes of play without leaving the game, but head coach Erik Spoelstra informed reporters that the ailment grew worse throughout the match.
Butler’s health will determine if the Heat can make it out of the Play-In Tournament, beating the Boston Celtics in the opening round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs, or going far beyond that.
Thanks to their top player, the Heat have advanced to the NBA Finals in two of the last four seasons and the Eastern Conference Finals in three campaigns, but they have yet to win a championship.

Generally speaking, Miami appears to shift gears throughout the postseason. But if Butler’s injury turns out to be as catastrophic as anticipated, the Heat could not even make it to the postseason this year.
However, the results depend just as much, if not more, on the reliable performances of Miami Heat mainstays like Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. Their crucial contributions will be the main factor in the Miami Heat’s journey from the Eastern Conference Play-In to a permanent place in the postseason.
