With more money comes more responsibility, but only when someone is willing to pay you. But there’s someone willing to pay Jimmy Butler what he wants. It was long ago when the Miami Heat veteran made it clear that he wanted a trade; from what we know so far, it is happening.
As per the latest rumor from NBA insider Evan Sidery of Forbes, “Butler has let it be known around the NBA he will only sign a new contract with one team: the Suns.” However, despite the star caliber Jimmy carries, teams were a bit skeptical about getting at him. While some of the teams are interested in the star small forward.

Butler has openly expressed his desire to find joy in basketball again, but it seems he may no longer find that joy in South Beach. For Heat fans, this would be the hardest goodbye they’ll have to say to a player who’s led them to two NBA Finals. That said, getting Butler to the Suns isn’t going to be a walk in the park.
While it seems they’re ready to offer him the contract he desires, there’s a crucial piece in the puzzle. Bradley Beal will likely have to drop his no-trade clause, something he seems hesitant to do. Beal’s current mood hints he feels he holds the keys to his situation, which makes the road to Butler’s potential trade rather tricky.

Butler desires a big, long-term contract. The Heat seem hesitant to offer that right now. Given Butler’s age of 35 and his hefty salary of almost $49 million this season, it’s understandable that the franchise is weighing its options carefully. Meanwhile, Butler feels underappreciated. This could drive him to seek greener pastures elsewhere, but it appears that Miami isn’t ready to bend to those demands.
In the world of the NBA, contract issues and trades can be complicated. The Heat don’t have to rush into anything just because Butler wants a quick fix. Their management seems focused on securing financial flexibility, especially if letting Butler walk in free agency frees up ample cap space for future moves. Butler has struggled to maintain his superstar level since the playoffs in 2023. This could make teams hesitant about taking a chance on him.
