Joe Smith compares LeBron James to Magic Johnson
Former NBA player Joe Smith compared Lakers star LeBron James’ game to Magic Johnson’s. He said that the way the 39-year-old plays his game is more similar to that of NBA legend Magic Johnson than Michael Jordan. LeBron and Jordan have always been a constant in the GOAT debate and this has led to many comparisons. However, Smith’s statements give a new perspective on LeBron’s playstyle that many fans may have missed.
“I grew up a Magic Johnson fan… He reminds me a lot of Magic, the way he plays and makes his teammates around him better,” said Smith in the interview. He expressed his thoughts on LeBron’s playstyle and also shared his experience playing with him.
“A lot of people gave him hell because he used to pass out of double teams and make the right basketball play, you know? But real basketball minds admire it when your best player draws the double team and has confidence in you to knock down shots,” said Smith praising LeBron on “Scoop B.”

LeBron recently surpassed Magic and Larry Bird combined
LeBron recently surpassed NBA legends Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. LeBron hit the 40,000 career points milestone in his match against the Denver Nuggets. He had already become the league’s leading scorer last year when he broke the record of NBA icon Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. However, this time his achievement is big enough to overtake Magic and Larry combined.
King James’ 40K career points surpass the combined career points of Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. The Lakers legend and the Celtics legend have a combined career point total of 39,498, which still falls short of LeBron’s recent milestone. LeBron is still going strong at the age of 39 and we can only imagine what more records he will set and break in the NBA.
