The LA Lakers got JJ Redick on their coaching, which might have upset some because of his inexperience. However, Redick’s former Clippers teammate, DeAndre Jordan, came out to root for him.
During his appearance on “Podcast P with Paul George”, the Nuggets’ center was asked about his views on whether Redick is ready for the Lakers’ task. Stating his opinion, Jordan said, “No head coach is ready to be a head coach when it’s that time.” Underlining Redick’s skills, he added, “However, I do believe that JJ is a very smart guy. He knows the game. He’s knowledgeable. He does know how to communicate with different players with different backgrounds and skill sets.”
Jordan expressed his awareness of how hard the Lakers’ job is. Highlighting the franchise’s high expectations, the 35-year-old stated, “JJ went to Duke, had a lot of pressure his entire career, defied a lot of odds, you know what I’m saying? So I think he’s up for the challenge.” Then he jokingly said that Redick shouldn’t succeed when facing his team, the Nuggets. “I gotta be honest, but I’m rooting for JJ. I hope he does well,” added Jordan.
The LA Lakers are aiming to level with the Boston Celtics now that they have gone a step above by bagging their 18th championship trophy. So they have set their bar high for Redick and are confident that the former Duke will deliver as he eagerly awaits this opportunity.
