The Atlanta Hawks kicked off their preseason with a win over the Indiana Pacers, but they stumbled in their second game against the Philadelphia 76ers, falling 104-89. One of the most surprising stats from the game was star guard Trae Young’s nine turnovers, which contributed to the Hawks’ tough loss.
Despite the high turnover count, Young didn’t seem too concerned. After the game, he addressed the issue directly, even dropping an expletive while talking about his performance.
“Right now I’m trying to get everybody involved. I don’t really give a f— about these turnovers. It’s the preseason. Me trying to get everybody involved is what I always try to do,” Young said.
For Young, the focus remains on preparing his teammates and working out the kinks before the regular season begins. Although his performance in terms of ball control wasn’t his best, he still contributed 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists during his 27 minutes on the court.
Trae Young’s Future in Atlanta in Doubt Amid Predictions of Trade Requests
Trae Young, who recently caught attention with a crazy off-court reaction, is entering his seventh season with the Atlanta Hawks. But recent speculation suggests his future with the team might be uncertain. Bleacher Report’s Grant Hughes recently predicted that Young could be among the next wave of NBA stars to request a trade, citing the Hawks’ lack of significant progress in recent years.
“Many teams in the Atlanta Hawks’ position would have traded Trae Young by now. Over the last four years, they’ve managed no more than 43 wins and no fewer than 36, which is precisely in that dreaded middle ground between bottoming out and contending,” Hughes wrote.

Despite Atlanta’s struggles, the team landed the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, selecting Zaccharie Risacher. Hughes also noted that this fortunate turn of events could have been the perfect opportunity for the Hawks to rebuild by trading Young.
Young is currently in the third year of his five-year, $215.1 million contract, which runs through the 2026-27 season. However, he has a $48.9 million player option for the final year of the deal, giving him the flexibility to explore other opportunities before the contract ends.
