The Atlanta Hawks are reportedly open to negotiating potential trades for All-Star point guard Trae Young this summer.
The Hawks had hoped to make a statement in the Eastern Conference with their acquisition of DeJounte Murray last offseason. However, things haven’t quite worked out as planned as they are facing a play-in situation and will play the Miami Heat in Tuesday’s opening round.
The reigning conference champions, the Boston Celtics, will be waiting if they win, so they wouldn’t be favorites to get to the second round of the postseason.
It’s now being reported that Atlanta could entertain trade offers for Young in the offseason, with the front office getting permission to consider packages for the backcourt star.
“With the offseason approaching, league sources say the Hawks’ front office has the green light from ownership to do whatever it wants to with the roster, which includes considering trade opportunities involving All-Star point guard Trae Young,” The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor reports.
Young’s scoring average is down from 28.4 points a game last season to 26.2 in this one, while his three-point shooting has decreased significantly, dropping from 38.2 percent to 33.5 percent.

The Hawks will need to make changes if they are to find success in the near future and it appears no one is indispensable at the moment.
The team fired head coach Nate McMillan during the season, replacing him with former Utah Jazz head coach Quin Snyder. But it’s going to take a lot more than that to get them going in the East next season.
O’Connor notes that Young wants to remain in Atlanta but the Hawks could opt to pull the trigger on a move.
