Klay Thompson probably played his final Warriors game last season and since then the rumors have not stopped. After a seemingly endless wait for an extension, Thompson is pivoting away from his beloved Warriors.
According to Marc Stein, the Dallas Mavericks are picking up interest in Klay Thompson. “With the Warriors and Thompson nowhere close to a contract agreement after a tumultuous season marked by fractious negotiations, multiple sources have indicated that the Mavericks are likely to emerge as the favorite to sign the shooting guard,” Stein wrote on his Substack.
The 5-time All-Star guard was under serious scrutiny throughout the year. After his 0-point game in the Play-in against the Kings, Klay’s departure almost looked certain.
But for the 34-year-old, the Mavs are not the only option. He has another big name from the West waiting on the wings.
Nuggets monitoring Klay Thompson situation
With the imminent exit of Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, the Nuggets are in need of ammunition. KCP is reportedly set for free agency after ditching his $13 million player option. As an alternative to him, the Nuggets are expected to show interest in Thompson once the swingman hits free agency on Sunday.

The Orlando Magic were also a team linked to Thompson as a potential destination but a move to the East might not be on the cards.
Despite his struggles, Thompson averaged 17.9 points per game from 43.2% shooting. His catch-and-shoot ability still makes him a valuable asset despite clearly having his prime behind him. With the free agency starting on Sunday, expect to see a host of teams converging on Klay Thompson if the Warriors don’t change their minds dramatically.
