The Golden State Warriors have been very successful in the NBA, mainly thanks to Stephen Curry’s exceptional skills. His impressive career stats include an average of 24.8 points per game, 6.4 assists, 4.7 rebounds, a field goal percentage of 47.3%, a three-point shooting percentage of 42.6%, and a free throw percentage of 91.0%.
Golden State Warriors GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. recently voiced a major concern: the team lacks a clear second option to complement Stephen Curry. With Klay Thompson’s departure, Dunleavy emphasized the uncertainty surrounding who will step up as Curry’s second fiddle.
“The positive of that is that is a little bit unknown and so going out every night if you’re an opponent you say ‘Who do you have to stop besides Steph Curry?’ The good news is, maybe they don’t know either”, said Dunleavy while addressing the media.
Several players have been mentioned as potential second options. Dunleavy pointed out Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Kuminga, and Brandin Podziemski as players who could step up.
He noted, “I think for us, whether it’s Wiggs, JK, or Brandin who can score the ball, I think we have a lot of ways to do it. Some nights it’s going to be different guys. But as I alluded to earlier, I think a little bit with the uncertainty is exciting, in the sense of ‘We got some things to find out.’”
Despite their potential, there’s still a gap in the second scoring role. Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins haven’t played at an All-Star level since the Warriors’ 2022 title. Dunleavy acknowledged the challenge of finding a second star, noting they avoided overpaying for players like Paul George or Lauri Markkanen to maintain financial flexibility.

The Impact Of Stephen Curry On The Golden State Warriors
Stephen Curry remains the key player for the Warriors, but he can’t do it all alone. His stats prove his incredible talent, as he has averaged over 24 points per game in his career, shooting nearly 48% from the field and 43% from three-point range.
Curry’s impact on the Warriors is clear; he has made the team a championship contender. He has won four NBA championships (2015, 2017, 2018, 2022), two NBA MVP awards (2015, 2016), eight NBA All-Star selections (2014-2019, 2021-2022), and an NBA Finals MVP award in 2022. In the most recent season (2023-24), he averaged 26.4 points per game, demonstrating that he remains dominant even in his mid-thirties.
He holds the highest career free-throw percentage in NBA history at 91.0% and has led the league in three-pointers made a record eight times. While his scoring and playmaking abilities are unmatched, he needs consistent support to lead the team to another championship.
Fans are hopeful that the Warriors will make a move during the season to provide Curry with the help he needs. It’s still unclear whether this support will come from current players or through new signings. The team’s success will depend on finding a reliable second option to complement Curry’s talent.
