In the latest episode of the Draymond Green Show, the host, Draymond Green, revealed some interesting details about his career. He mentioned how close he came to joining the Memphis Grizzlies in the previous season.
He also shared that during last year’s free agency, he called his teammates Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry to let them know that he was leaving the team.
“So last year during free agency, I called Klay, and I called Steph, separate calls, and Steve (Kerr), and I was just telling them like, ‘Yo, I’m leaving. I’m going to Memphis.’ I remember that call with them, so I was going to leave, and (my wife) said we were in Paris, and she’s like, it reminds me of when we were in Paris and you were calling them. She was just sitting there crying, and obviously, we got it figured out. Shout out to the Lacobs and Mike Dunley, his first free agency. They got it. We got it done,” Green said.
Draymond Green Gets Real About Thompson’s Departure on His Podcast
After Thompson accepted the Dallas Mavericks’ offer and left the Warriors, the Warriors’ trio was broken. Stephen Curry became emotional and paid tribute to Thompson through his Instagram stories.
Curry posted multiple photos with Thompson, along with a heartfelt message for him. Meanwhile, Draymond Green opened up about Thompson on his podcast, expressing that he, too, dislikes change and wants things to stay the same in his life. He also mentioned that changes hurt him, alluding to Thompson’s departure from the team.
“I always tell people that I like to keep things the same; my friends are the same. In life, I try to keep things the same. My trainer who works on my body, I try to keep the same like my basketball trainer. … I like things to stay the same and this sucks for me. This part, this time of year, always sucks because you build relationships with people, and then like, out of nowhere, they’re just gone,” Green added.
