Michael Jordan’s legacy as one of the greatest basketball players of all time is undisputed, with his name still echoing through the halls of NBA history. Besides his incredible career with the Chicago Bulls, Jordan also made his mark on the international stage, representing Team USA and securing four gold medals during his college and NBA career.
Though Jordan is often regarded as the GOAT in the NBA, one former NBA star thinks his bar isn’t too high when it comes to Team USA. During a recent appearance on Sports Bio Center, former NBA star Gilbert Arenas stirred controversy by suggesting that Jordan shouldn’t be on Team USA’s all-time starting five. When asked to pick his ultimate lineup from the 1992 Olympics to the present day, Arenas left out Jordan in favor of other basketball legends.
“Let me go from the five. Give me Shaq. Can I go KD and Bron, three-four,” Arenas said.
Arenas was adamant in snubbing Jordan from the list. He went on to challenge the idea that Jordan’s Olympic performances were as legendary as his NBA career.
“Kobe… Who is the better shooting guard in the Olympics? Michael Jordan or Kobe. If we want to keep it a buck, we can say because Michael Jordan’s on the team, but did you see his Olympic performances? He wasn’t Michael Jordan,” he added.
