The Denver Nuggets recently signed Nikola Jokic’s pick-and-roll partner, Jamal Murray, for four years, $207 million. This deal ensures that Murray will remain with the team through the 2028–29 season.
However, not everyone is convinced that Murray’s new contract reflects his true worth. Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas, who recently opened up about players’ lack of chances in the NBA, is one of them. Arenas recently shared his thoughts on the deal during an episode of his “Gils Arena Show.”
At first, he expressed surprise that Murray, despite his talents, hasn’t received certain individual accolades throughout his career. He then expressed his belief that if Murray had been an All-Star, he could have secured a contract worth $305 million or even $325 million.
“When you think about his career, you’re gonna be like, ‘Damn, he didn’t make no All-Star games? He was no All NBA player? That’s crazy, right? A guy that has so much and he does so much for the team and he don’t get the accolades and awards,” Arenas said.
“This is cheap for what they getting. You have a guaranteed closer; he hits big shots. For him not to be an All NBA player or All Star because he could’ve easily been signing for $305 [million] or $325 [million], and no one was gonna say, ‘Ah, that’s too much for him,'” he added.
Jamal Murray’s Last Season Highlights
Murray was sidelined for several games last season due to persistent injuries. Despite the setbacks, he played in 59 regular-season games and posted a career-high average of 21.2 points and 6.5 assists per game for the Nuggets.

In the playoffs, the Nuggets point guard continued to show his toughness, especially in the first-round series against the Los Angeles Lakers. However, his performance was hampered by injuries during the seven-game series loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round. Over 12 playoff games, he averaged 20.6 points, 5.6 assists, and 4.3 rebounds per game.
