LeBron James is entering his 22nd season in the league. As the Los Angeles Lakers star adds to his legendary career, he’s also gaining support from fellow basketball greats. One such figure is former NBA star Gilbert Arenas, who has publicly expressed his admiration for James, going so far as to endorse him for a statue in his honor.
Arenas recently took his support for James a step further, weighing in on the long-standing GOAT debate between LeBron James and Michael Jordan. On a recent episode of his “Gils Arenas Show,” Arenas tackled the divide between fans who focus on stats and those who emphasize championships in determining basketball’s greatest player.
“The problem is you’re acting like history has our voice; history has a youth voice. The youth is only going to look—just like they do now—when they’re trying to see who’s the GOAT. They only look at championships,” Arenas said.
The debate about LeBron James vs. Michael Jordan has always been fueled by Jordan’s six NBA championships compared to James’ four, despite LeBron holding nearly every statistical record in the league. Former NBA star Nick Young chimed in during the discussion. He claimed how the GOAT conversation often prioritizes Jordan’s championship success over James’ overwhelming statistical dominance.
“LeBron got every stat in the world, but they still are saying Jordan is better because he got six rings!” Young said.
Gilbert Arenas Shares Supports For Bronny James
During another episode of his “Gil’s Arena” podcast, Gilbert Arenas extended his support for LeBron James’ son, Bronny James. Arenas pointed out that while many fans are quick to critique Bronny’s on-court performance, they often overlook his influence as a young player entering the NBA.

“Everybody’s judging the basketball game, but nobody’s judging him as an influencer,” Arenas said.
After a somewhat underwhelming start to the preseason with the Los Angeles Lakers, Bronny surprised fans with a standout performance against the Golden State Warriors. He scored 17 points in the game, though the Lakers fell to the Warriors 132-74. Like Arenas, many still think Bronny has much athleticism to showcase like his great father.
