Team USA’s 98-87 victory in the 2024 Paris Olympics secured another gold medal for the country, with LeBron James earning the MVP honor. However, not everyone agrees that James deserved the title most. Head coach Steve Kerr, for instance, praised Devin Booker as the “unsung MVP,” while sports commentator Skip Bayless argued in favor of Stephen Curry.
Gilbert Arenas also recently joined the debate supporting Curry. On his show “Gil’s Arena,” the Former NBA star questioned the fairness of the MVP decision.
“This wasn’t an American committee who voted. This has no bias on it… You’re trying to take a 2-minute moment and pretend that it happened the whole [Olympic games]?” Arenas said.
James averaged 14.2 points, 8.5 assists, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game in Paris. On the other hand, Curry averaged 14.8 points throughout the tournament. He shined brightest in the semifinal and gold medal games, where he averaged 30 points—the highest average for any player in Olympic history.
LeBron James Reflects )n Teaming Up With Stephen Curry After Gold Medal Victory
For the first time in their storied careers, James and Curry teamed up on the basketball court, and the results were as impressive as expected. The duo’s chemistry and skill helped lead Team USA to a gold medal. After the finals, the Los Angeles Lakers star spoke highly of his experience playing alongside Curry.
“I’ve seen it before. In different uniforms. It’s good to be on his side. You just marvel at his talent,” said James and continued, “Obviously, I’ve seen it before, you know, on the opposite side. But having him on your side, you just try to get stops and figure out other ways on the other end, but keep finding him, keep getting him the ball.”
