Giannis Antetokounmpo is entering his 12th season with the Milwaukee Bucks. Throughout these years, he remains the heart and soul of the team that drafted him in 2013. Over his 11-year career, the “Greek Freak” has achieved much success, including leading the Bucks to their second NBA championship after 50 years.
However, as the team continues to chase another championship, Antetokounmpo is facing growing concerns. The Bucks have made the playoffs in every season since their 2021 title run, but another championship has turned into a faraway thing.
Antetokounmpo recently spoke about the team’s future and his own in an interview with The Athletic’s Sam Amick. The two-time MVP shared his belief that if the Bucks fail to reach their ultimate goal, the team may not hesitate to make significant changes, possibly even trading him.
“Yeah, if we don’t win a championship, I might get traded. This is the job we live. This is the world we’re living in. It’s everybody. At any given moment, if you don’t succeed, that might be it for us. If you don’t do a good enough job, you’re out,” Antetokounmpo said.

The Bucks are heading into the upcoming season after finishing last year with a 49-33 record. Despite the team’s regular-season success, their early playoff exit has fueled Antetokounmpo’s determination to push further this season. Antetokounmpo is clear about his focus for the year ahead.
“This year, a challenge for me is to be healthy. A challenge for me is to play in the playoffs, to get out of the f—— first round. I assert myself even more. Every year for me is important because one day, I’m going to be 35 or 36 or 38 and I’m going to be like, ‘Oh, my prime just went, and I wasn’t able to do something,’” Antetokounmpo told Athletic.
