A giant trade proposal has the Milwaukee Bucks dealing Giannis Antetokounmpo to a top Eastern Conference club in a move that would drastically shake up the league landscape.
The two-time league MVP, of course, hasn’t outright requested a trade from the Bucks. But Antetokounmpo did make headlines during an interview with Tania Ganguli of the New York Times last month, when he stated that he won’t sign an extension with the Bucks unless he feels confident that the front office is building a championship-level team around him.
At NBA Analysis Network, James Piercey proposed a massive blockbuster trade idea that has the Bucks sending Antetokounmpo to the New York Knicks in exchange for R.J. Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, Mitchell Robinson, 2026, 2028 and 2030 first-round picks plus 2029 first-round pick swaps:
“Obviously, there’s no positive way to move Antetokounmpo. If he’s not the best player in the league, he’s one of three. Nikola Jokic has earned his current status as the league’s top dog, and Steph Curry has a case over Antetokounmpo. Otherwise, we’re talking about the league’s best.
That’s exactly why the Bucks are getting so much back here. Sure, they could get more draft capital elsewhere. What they won’t get is a better collection of both draft picks and young players. Arguably, this package is highlighted by Mitch Robinson. He’s one of the best young defensive big men in the NBA.
Is he a fit with this roster? No – not as long as Brook Lopez exists. That’s fine. If the Bucks are trading Antetokounmpo, we assume that they’d be trading all of their veterans. So, if the Bucks are rebuilding, this is a good first step for them. Should the Knicks give up so much for Antetokounmpo?”
With several young studs and a plethora of draft picks, the Knicks are certainly in good position to make a move for a superstar-caliber player like Giannis. And Piercey’s proposed deal here would give Milwaukee several young pieces to build around in a post-Antetokounmpo world.
The Bucks have Giannis under team control for at least two more years. If he declines his player option for the 2025-26 season, then the future Hall of Famer will be able to test free agency.

The odds are very low that the Bucks will want to trade Antetokounmpo as long as they’re in championship contention. But if the front office ultimately decides to shop him, the Knicks shouldn’t hesitate to call up the Bucks and see if a deal can be had.
