Celtics star forward Jayson Tatum fell short of winning the MVP honors last season. However, the 26-year-old made headlines with his incredible performance in the championship-winning season.

Kevin Durant was selected second overall by the Seattle SuperSonics in the 2007 NBA Draft. However, the Phoenix Suns star forward played his first NBA playoffs game in 2010 with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Durant started all 73 playoff games for the Thunder from 2010 to 2014, in his five seasons under 27, reaching the 2012 NBA Finals. In these games, KD scored 2,109 points, averaging career-high assists (6.3 apg) in 2013 and steals (1.5 spg) in 2012.
Tony Parker – San Antonio Spurs (2002 to 2008)
Tony Parker joined the league in 2001 and played his first 17 NBA seasons with the San Antonio Spurs. The French guard joined the league as a 19-year-old and qualified for the postseason from 2002 to 2018. Before turning 27, Parker made seven playoff appearances until 2008.
He started each of his 117 playoff games until 2008 and scored 2,300 points. The former Spurs guard also won three of his four championships in 2003, 2005, and 2007. The six-time NBA All-Star won the 2007 NBA Finals MVP, averaging 24.5 points, 5 rebounds, and 3.3 assists.
LeBron James – Cleveland Cavaliers (2006 to 2010); Miami Heat (2011)
Four-time NBA champion LeBron James joined the league in 2003 and became the all-time scoring leader in 2023. The 39-year-old forward made his first playoff appearance in 2006 and reached the NBA Finals twice, in 2007 with the Cleveland Cavaliers and in 2011 with the Miami Heat, before turning 27.
From 2006 to 2011, LeBron appeared in six playoff seasons before his 27th birthday. In his 92 playoff games under 27, the four-time NBA MVP scored 2,578 points. In 2009, LeBron averaged his playoff career-high 35.3 points per game and 1.8 blocks per game next season. The former Cavaliers star won his first two MVP honors in 2009 and 2010.

Kobe Bryant – Los Angeles Lakers (1997 to 2004)
One of the greatest Los Angeles Lakers players in history, Kobe Bryant, played 20 seasons with the franchise and won five championships. Bryant is the joint-most successful player on this list, with three championships from 2000 to 2002, under 27. Kobe qualified for the playoffs in his first eight seasons and played 119 games until 2004.
Black Mamba started 99 of those games, coming off the bench in his first 20 playoff games in 1997 and 1998. Kobe scored 2,694 points in his first eight playoff appearances before turning 27. Kobe averaged his career-high rebounds (7.3) and assists (6.1) in the 2001 playoffs.
Jayson Tatum – Boston Celtics (2018 to 2024)
Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum will probably play his first game of his eighth NBA season on October 22 against the New York Knicks. Tatum will turn 27 on March 3, 2025, ahead of the playoffs. In his first seven seasons, the Celtics forward started all 113 games for his team.
In his playoff career, Tatum has scored 2,711 points, averaging 24 points per game. Tatum has scored the most playoff points under 27 in NBA history. Despite leading the 2024 NBA Finals MVP, Jaylen Brown, in points, assists, and rebounds, Tatum couldn’t win the MVP honor.
With the 2024-25 regular season approaching, Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics will look to become the first team to win back-to-back titles since the 2018 Golden State Warriors.
