With the 2024 Paris Olympics just around the corner, teams are gearing up for a shot at the gold medal. The team are already setting up camps ahead of the tournament and France was one of the teams already looking to sharpen their arsenal. But an incident on Friday morning upset NBA star Evan Fournier.
“5:55 am drug testing today. During the hardest week of training camp. Show more respect to your athletes,” the Pistons player posted on his X (formerly known as Twitter) handle. This came after FIBA conducted an out-of-competition test.
According to FIBA’s rules, out-of-competition testing can be carried out at any point. Any player affiliated with a FIBA team can undergo a test irrespective of location. But Fournier did not take kindly to the rules and chose to call out the basketball authority.
As of this writing, no action has been taken against the former Knicks guard. But this is not the only concern surrounding Fournier.
Evan Fournier Heading to Free Agency
According to reports, Fournier is set for free agency ahead of Sunday’s deadline. The Pistons have declined the $19 million team option on Fournier’s $73,000,000 contract.

According to rumors, Fournier is set to join the Euro League next season but wants to test his free agency market first. In his 12-year NBA career, Fournier has played with five different NBA teams.
In 32 outings this season, Fournier has scored 6.9 points per game from 35.7% field shooting, along with 1.8 rebounds, and dished out 1.5 assists per game. With this, the chances are not too bright for Fournier to attract interest from another franchise. And if a franchise comes with an offer, we’ve probably seen the last Frenchman in the NBA.
