LeBron James, the Los Angeles Lakers star player, is widely considered the greatest player of all time. As he continues to play in his 22nd season, a former NBA player has suggested that James’ time with the Miami Heat was even more remarkable.
The Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan is often compared to James when players and analysts discuss who is the greatest of all time (GOAT). Recently, former No. 1 draft pick Greg Oden declared that Heat’s James is the greatest basketball player ever, despite being a fan of Jordan.
“That motherf–ker was a creative player. Like look, I am a Michael Jordan guy, I swear to god, but LeBron James on the Miami Heat is the greatest player to ever play the game of basketball.” Oden said during a recent appearance on Glory Daze podcast.
James is currently the oldest active player in the league. The King will turn 40 next month, yet he shows no signs of slowing down. In addition, his son, Bronny, has joined the team, making them the first father-son duo in NBA history. However, James’s time with the Heat was one of the greatest eras in his legacy.
Oden Compares James’ Current Performance To His Time With The Heat
Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh joined James to form the Miami Heat’s Big Three. This trio dominated the league from 2010–11 to 2013–14, leading the franchise to two back-to-back NBA championships.
Oden played alongside James during the 2013-14 season. In a discussion on the Glory Daze podcast, he compared James’s current playing style to his time with the Heat. He noted that the Lakers star is currently more focused on defense, using an example from one of James’s recent games this season.

“I still talk about this. I saw LeBron James guard somebody with the ball in the left corner. They threw a pass at the top of the key and to the right corner and didn’t even hold it. Just a quick pass. LeBron James was right there when that ball got to that other corner and I was like, ‘This is the best player on the planet right now.’ And he’s actually playing defense like that. … I played in that game where he got like 63 points.” Oden said.
James has accomplished significant milestones in his career, earning his place among the greatest players in NBA history. Furthermore, he continues to excel in the league, further enhancing his impressive list of achievements.
