Former NBA star DeMarcus Cousins earned Finals MVP honors on Saturday after leading the Taiwan Beer Leopards to a championship in the T1 League. His performance was of service in the Leopards’ dominant 4-0 sweep over the Taipei Taishin Mars in the Final.
Cousins scored 24 points and secured 24 rebounds in the game. The former NBA superstar signed a short-term deal with the Leopards in January with the aim of making an impact in the T1 League.
In February 2024, he announced that he would not be seeking further NBA contracts, opting instead to focus on his stint with the Taiwan Beer Leopards. His commitment paid off, as he re-signed with the team and appeared in three additional regular-season games in late April before the playoffs began.

Before joining the Taiwan league, DeMarcus Cousins was a four-time All-Star and a standout player for the Sacramento Kings. Cousins played a crucial role in revitalizing the Kings’ basketball scene during his tenure. He averaged 21.1 points and 10.8 rebounds per game over seven seasons with the Kings.
Nevertheless, his NBA career took a difficult turn after he suffered a devastating ACL tear during the offseason of the 2019–20 season. Due to the injury, he had to miss the entire year.

In his final two seasons in the NBA, Cousins played for four different teams, including Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks and Denver Nuggets. But he struggled continuously to find stability and regain his previous form.
Meanwhile, his dominance in the T1 League has reignited discussions about his potential return to the NBA. Many believe that Cousins’ recent performance in Taiwan proves that he still has the talent and ability to compete at a high level.
