Before the basketball realm started worshipping the three-point shooters, there was a certain Danny Green who started it all. Back in the 2010s, it was Green who dominated proceedings from outside the arc. Touted as one of the best three-point shooters in the NBA, Green was a menace to his opponents.
Having won 3 NBA championships , Green donned the colors of the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs. Unfortunately, despite having a 40% long range shooting accuracy, the 3 time NBA athlete was never considered as a star. He never made it to the All-Star team once, culminating his career in a sombre manner. Now, after all these years, Green looked back at his career and decided to weigh in on the star quotient.
In a recent appearance on Dwight Howard’s ‘Above the Rim with DH12’, the 37-year-old got candid. Reflecting on his superstar prospects, Green stated, “I wouldn’t say a star, but I could’ve been a super role player. I could’ve been a watered down version of Klay [Thompson], if that makes sense. Klay is very good at what he does. A lot of people think, but it’s not easy bring that guy, being that role.”
Doubling down further, Green stated that in a system accustomed with pin-down screens, he would have replicated JJ Redick’s success. And these are not random words coming from Green. He had an enviable career stat that includes 3.4 rebounds, 8.7 points, and 1.5 assists per game. Interestingly, Green decided to end his 15 year long NBA career just a couple of weeks prior.
Danny Green Retires After Ascension To NBA Success
Danny Green’s start to his NBA career was not so much of a hype. Drafted as the 46th overall pick, Green averaged 5.8 minutes for the Cavaliers in his debut season. But things took a drastic turn when he joined the San Antonio Spurs. Getting some solid guidance from Greg Popovich, Green helped his team reach back to back finals, winning the title in 2014.

He also won two more championships with the Toronto Raptors and Los Angeles Lakers before retiring with the 76ers. Back on November 1, Green was waived from the team, which marked the end of his illustrious NBA career. Just a couple of weeks back, NBA insider Shams Charania, broke the news of retirement, bringing down the curtain to an almost star’s story.
