Lazar Hayward was reportedly arrested in Hawaii last week after allegedly falsifying COVID test results to avoid quarantine.
The 34-year-old and another person he was traveling with were arrested at Lihue Airport in Kauai this week after cops were notified that the pair uploaded fake negative COVID test results into the state’s Safe Travels portal, Hawaii News Now reported.
The former Minnesota Timberwolves forward was charged with unsworn falsification. The two were released from custody and taken back to the airport, where they were put on a flight back to Los Angeles.
Per Hawaii law, fully vaccinated passengers entering the islands from the United States may bypass quarantine after uploading vaccination records into the state’s system. Unvaccinated passengers must show a negative test taken within 72 hours of arrival.
Hayward spent three seasons in the NBA from 2010-2013 after he was selected with the No. 30 overall pick in the 2010 draft out of Marquette by the Washington Wizards. He was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves instantly. He would soon find his way to the Oklahoma City Thunder the following season, and then bounced back and forth from the G League.
In total, Hayward averaged 2.9 points and 1.3 rebounds in 72 games throughout his NBA career.
