Paul George, also known as PG-13, chose to opt out of his $48.7 million contract and become a free agent after an impressive 2023-24 season with the Los Angeles Clippers. Subsequently, the nine-time NBA All-Star, who recently shared a funny story about his Team USA snub, signed with the Philadelphia 76ers.
On July 6, 2024, in a tribute to the Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, he announced that he would be wearing the number 8 jersey. However, a former NBA player recently spoke about why George is an excellent fit for the Sixers.
According to Theo Ratliff, James Harden didn’t prioritize defense, unlike Paul George, who does. Ratliff, a former NBA player with 16 seasons of experience, shared this insight during his recent appearance on SiriusXM NBA Radio.
“One thing that Paul George does that James Harden didn’t do is play defense… he does the utility work along with getting buckets,” Ratliff said.
During the recent season, George delivered several outstanding performances for the Clippers, including a season-high 41 points against the Charlotte Hornets on April 1. Thanks to his efforts, the team qualified for the NBA playoffs. Unfortunately, they were defeated by the Dallas Mavericks in the first round of the 2023-24 NBA playoffs.
Ratliff Spotlighted George’s Skills as a High-Scoring Player
Ratliff mentioned that the 76ers’ acquisition of George is the perfect offseason move. The former NBA player noted that PG-13 is a prolific scorer who has consistently performed at an All-Star level and is also skilled at making plays alongside other All-Stars.

“A scorer who has played in the All-Star role for a long time and who also knows how to refer to the other All-Stars. I think it’s a great opposition…. He came from a smaller program right after college, much like me, and had to build themselves up to be the player that he is today. So he understands the whole totality.” Ratliff added.
According to StatMuse, George averaged 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in 74 games during the 2023-24 season. Additionally, he was selected to play in his ninth All-Star game. The next NBA season will start in two months, and it will be fascinating to see how the 34-year-old star will perform with the Sixers.
