Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard continues to recover from injury. The Clippers’ president of basketball operations, Lawrence Frank, recently revealed that Leonard will be limited as training camp begins. Unfortunately, this is the fourth season where injury woes have hindered Leonard’s performance.
Leonard’s situation was a topic of discussion on All The Smoke Podcast, where NBA legends Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett weighed in. Surprisingly, Pierce suggested that Leonard should seriously think about stepping away from the game. Pierce voiced his concerns for Leonard’s future well-being, stating the toll repeated injuries take on an athlete’s body.
“Kawhi long-term should really start contemplating retirement. Think about how many years we’ve been seeing him go through a clear house or surgeries or sit out this many games because of knee swelling,” Pierce said.
“It’s gonna get to the point where you want to be able to save your legs for after you retire. You should really think about the future because this is too much to put your body through,” he added.
Kawhi Leonard’s Knee Injury Limits Participation in Clippers Training Camp
Kawhi Leonard’s injury is proving to be more complex than initially thought, as there’s been only a slight reduction in the inflammation in his right knee. As a result, the Los Angeles Clippers are taking a cautious approach with their star player during training camp. Team president Lawrence Frank discussed Leonard’s plan.

“He wants to participate in everything in training camp, but we’re going to hold him back from drill work and really focus on strengthening because the goal is to get him 100% so that he can have a great season,” Frank said.
Despite concerns over his knee, Leonard is coming off one of his healthiest seasons in recent years. He played in 68 regular-season games and averaged 23.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game.
