San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama, the first overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, has gained significant attention due to his impressive height of 7 feet 4 inches. Even 7 feet 1 inches tall Rudy Gobert had to adjust his stance during a photo session with Team France at the Paris Olympics when standing next to Wembanyama.
Despite the awe-inspiring attributes of these tall players, former NBA star Paul Mokeski has raised concerns about the challenges associated with extraordinary height. During an interview with Infobae, Mokeski shared his perspective on the potential disadvantages of being exceptionally tall.
“The human body is not made to be so tall. From Darryl Dawkins and Moses Malone to Earl Cureton, Wilt Chamberlain, and Jack Haley, they all died from heart-related problems. This is what happens with tall players like me who played in the NBA. We notice the former tall players who have passed away and how they died,” Mokeski said.
“He will have far fewer problems due to training and knowledge about it. I am less worried about someone like him now than, say, 25 years ago. He will be much better off than I was,” he added.
Topps Unveils Rare Dual Autograph Card Featuring LeBron James and Victor Wembanyama
After wrapping up a promising rookie season with the San Antonio Spurs, Victor Wembanyama also led Team France to the Paris Olympics final. Despite their efforts, Team France fell short to Team USA in the gold medal game.
Wembanyama’s impressive performance has drawn comparisons to another basketball legend, LeBron James. Like James, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft, Wembanyama has been one of the most highly anticipated rookie prospects in recent years.
