Former New York Knicks forward Noah Vonleh recently concluded a tumultuous stint with the Shanghai Sharks of China’s CBA. His experience in China, much like his NBA career, ended abruptly and on a sour note. Vonleh detailed his rocky journey with the Sharks in a series of posts on his personal Instagram account.
On Friday, Vonleh made waves by labeling the Shanghai Sharks as the “worst organization” he has ever been a part of.
“Smh it was a crazy year playing in China! Shanghai Sharks by far worst organization I’ve ever been a part of…Very unprofessional. They still owe me my playoff bonus from the 21/22 season. They also still owe me the remaining balance of my salary for the 23/24 season,” he wrote in his first post.
Vonleh’s Instagram typically features a modest seven posts. But saw six new additions on Friday alone, each shedding light on different aspects of his troubled tenure with the Sharks. In his second post, he revealed how the organization mishandled his condition and pressured him to return to play prematurely.
“I was dealing with an injury during the season and it was taking longer than expected for me to return. The Sharks tried to rush me back many times and told team doctors and doctors outside of the team to lie to me and tell me I’m ok to play. I sent my MRI results to doctors in the states and they had different opinions and confirmed I wasn’t ready to return to play,” he shared.

The saga took a darker turn when Vonleh explained how the Sharks sought to terminate his contract due to his prolonged recovery.
“Because the injury was taking too long the Sharks were trying to find ways to terminate my contract on a fully guaranteed deal. They wrongfully terminated the contract on February 26th, 2024,” he continued.
Shanghai Sharks Used Weapons to Evict Noah Vonleh from the Hotel Room
Noah Vonleh last played for the Boston Celtics, the 18th NBA championship winner. He was then traded to the San Antonio Spurs before being waived. He had high hopes for his basketball career with the Shanghai Sharks in China’s CBA. However, what was expected to be a career boost turned into a frightening situation.
Following the termination of his contract with the Sharks, the 28-year-old revealed that the team manager went to extreme lengths to force him out of the hotel room provided during his contract.
“I get back to the hotel after attending one of the games. Now the General Manager wants to have my room canceled. The General Manager tells the hotel to send people to my room to force me out of there. There’s six people coming to my room trying to break in and grab me out the room,” Vonleh wrote.
The situation escalated alarmingly, as Vonleh described an encounter where these individuals used weapons in their attempts to remove him.
“Weapon they used to break into my room while I was sleep. Snatched it from them thru the peep hole smh,” he ended with showing a metal rod with a handle wrapped in black tape.
