The San Antonio Spurs are back to winning ways again. After suffering a two-game losing streak, the Spurs bounced back significantly against the Utah Jazz. Drubbing their opponents 106-88, the Spurs looked confident in their offensive approach. And much of the credit goes to their star prospect, Victor Wembanyama’s spectacular show.
Coming into the season as the defending NBA Rookie of the Year, Wembanyama was unstoppable. He became the youngest player to achieve a 5×5 stat line. Wembanyama dropped 25 points while recording 5 steals, 7 assists, 5 blocks, and 9 rebounds. Now, such a dominant show is supposed to impress his fans and critics alike. Well, not quite.
In a recent appearance at Gil’s Arena, former Lakers star Nico Young had some unpleasant things to say about Wembanyama. Speaking about his style of play, Young stated, “Right now, [Victor Wembanyama] ain’t got no game… Everything is a highlight; he gotta do a stepback, but after the stepback, he don’t know what else to do.” Young also mentioned that one of the major reasons for his critical take was Wembanyama’s weak offense.
However, Young hoped that with time, things would improve as he would become more and more mature. Surely, the 20-year-old has shown enough promise in his rookie year. Coming to his second year in the NBA, Wembanyama will look to improve drastically. As a matter of fact, the young phenom did share a sneak peek of his NBA preparation recently.
