Dwyane Wade is considered one of the greatest shooting guards in NBA history. He had a prosperous professional career, winning three championships, being a three-time member of the All-Defensive Team, a 13-time NBA All-Star, and an eight-time member of the All-NBA Team. Wade played most of his 16-season career with the Miami Heat. He played alongside LeBron James, and together, they dominated four consecutive seasons from 2011 to 2014, leading to continuous NBA Finals appearances. Due to his impressive statistics and numerous awards, he is often part of the greatest of all-time players debate. In the latest episode of 7 PM in Brooklyn, the 2006 NBA Finals MVP reflects on whether he could have been in the GOAT debate without injury setbacks.
“I had to run it back because no one really knows; they don’t understand my game. You don’t know what I did. I did so many different things; I played so many different roles. I’m not the greatest shooter of all time, but I was great at so many things, so nobody knows how to break down my game, so they look over it. I learned to be great in all of these things. And no one knows how to really break down my game. When I had it, I had it. Before injuries, I’m like MJ (Michael Jordan). I’m coming for you. That’s my mentality. I thought I was gonna be the greatest because I figured it out early in the league.” Wade said.
Wade Reflects On Shaq’s Legendary Influence: The Key To The Heat’s 2006 Triumph
In the same episode, Wade reminisced about the impact of a legendary player on the Heat’s success during the 2006 NBA season. The Miami Heat’s all-time leading scorer stated that Shaquille O’Neal, also known as Big Diesel, inspired him when the team was down 0-2.
“[Shaq] tried to use a little reverse psychology on me…We’re down 0-2, and Shaq is not playing up to Shaq’s standards… What he did to me is, he just kind of put it on me… So, he put a little fire under me, like, ‘Yo, this is your time. I already got three(rings). What you gon do?’” Wade said during the latest episode of 7 PM in Brooklyn.
Wade also revealed how Michael Jordan stole the spotlight by trash-talking at the NBA Top 75 Ceremony.
