A video of an individual who’s supposedly Shawn Kemp has surfaced online showing him firing off a gunshot at a parking lot in Tacoma, Washington prior to getting arrested.
According to police records, the former Seattle SuperSonics forward is facing a felony charge over a shooting incident that occurred on Wednesday in which no one was hurt. Initial reports noted that the 53-year-old has been accused of participating in a drive-by shooting, however, persons close to him have told local news outlets he was acting in self-defense.
Kemp is said to have confronted someone after tracking a stolen iPhone, prompting an altercation that resulted in shots being fired. The Tacoma Police Department revealed that one man was arrested on the scene, also stating that “one car fled.”

Per Washington state law, the crime of a drive-by shooting applies to someone who discharges a gun directly from a vehicle or from “the immediate area of a motor vehicle that was used to transport the shooter or the firearm, or both, to the scene of the discharge,” creating “a substantial risk of death or serious physical injury.”
While the department stopped short of naming Kemp, records show that the former player was booked into Pierce County Jail on a felony charge of drive-by shooting. His age and gender formed part of the announcement too.

Authorities say the incident took place at a parking lot in the 4,500 block of S. Steele Street, which lines up with the Tacoma Mall shopping center.
FOX 13 cites sources who claim that Kemp “had property stolen from his car on Tuesday, tracked his iPhone to Tacoma on Wednesday and when he approached the vehicle, a suspect shot at him. He fired back in self-defense.”
Kemp was one of the most electrifying stars in the NBA back in his day. Known as “the Reign Man,” he often pulled off incredible in-game dunks and was an All-Star on six occasions.
The former player remains active in Seattle, where he has launched several business ventures. He opened a second cannabis store in the city this year.
