This past Sunday, rapper/singer Lizzo made major headlines when she showed up courtside at the Lakers game. Celebrities in attendance is not a shocker in L.A., but she went viral for something completely different.
Sometime during the game, the Laker girls took to the court to perform, and while they were dancing around, the camera went to Lizzo and she started twerking for the crowd. The only problem with that is that she was sporting a long t-shirt dress with an oval cut out of the butt area, which exposed her thong and fishnets.
The incident sparked a widespread debate on appropriate attire for a family-friendly event. In fact, some fans even took to Change.org and called for her to be banned from Staples Center.
“To allow someone to walk in to the staples center let alone any public place with a thong and hole cut out a shirt to display her butt to the world shouldn’t be allowed, it’s outrageous. Let any non-famous person try this and watch them be kicked out and banned…we can’t let our “idols” get away with the things normal Americans could never do. This petition is in no way a shame to the human body but to bring awareness to the audacity that we as Americans are letting these people get away with things because they are famous. I don’t think anyone should be allowed to enter a public venue like that. Please join me in signing this petition to ban Lizzo from staples center and maybe make her second guess corrupting the youth!”

“Lebron and the lakers are the NBA most popular team whether you like them or hate them. That being said many children look up to, and idolize these players. Unfortunately, our children were shocked to see a crazed woman expose her self on national TV and twerk in a thong. The problem with this, is if a woman’s (non celebrity) were to do this, shed be quickly escorted out of the building and banned from the arena. Another problem is that if a male were to flash the crowd, he’d likely be facing indecent exposure charges. This kind of behavior is a bad look for the league, and is unacceptable for the standard we want to set for our children. People don’t pay their good money to support the NBA just to have their experience ruined by some pervert flashing them.
Action must be taken here, because if it does not, then it just sets an example that this is an OK behavior to do. Thus creating a bigger problem in the long run. What someone does under their sheets, or in their house is their own business. But being a pervert and flashing millions of people who never asked for it, is sexual harassment by the very definition. If a commoner like you or I went to a sports event and flashed the crowd, and made sure to do it when the camera was on us, we’d be escorted out of the building or arrested.
Please support this in favor of equal rights, celebrities shouldn’t receive special treatment. We need to be better role models for our children.”
Lizzo recently spoke out about the incident and was unapologetic for what she did.
“Who I am and the essence of me and the things that I choose to do as a grown ass woman can inspire you to do the same,” she said. “You don’t have to be like me. You need to be like you. Never, ever let somebody stop you or shame you from being yourself. This is who I’ve always been. Now everyone’s looking at it and your criticism can just remain your criticism. Your criticism has no effect on me. Negative criticism has no stake in my life, no control over my life, over my emotions. I’m the happiest I’ve ever been and surrounded by so much love. I just wanna spread that love and also spread these cheeks. And if you really don’t like my ass, you can kiss it.”
