After Game 2 of the NBA Finals, the Boston Celtics have established a commanding 2-0 lead over the Dallas Mavericks. Despite this challenging situation, Mavericks star guard Kyrie Irving remains optimistic about his team’s chances of clinching their second NBA championship.
In a press conference following Tuesday’s practice, Irving discussed the team’s inspiration heading into Game 3.
“I’ve been saying it all year, failure is the best teacher at times and it can inspire you to do great things. We want to give ourselves a chance by leaving it all out there on the floor.”
Irving’s confidence is unwavering, even in the face of two difficult losses. He assured fans of his former team that the Mavericks are far from finished and that they would make a strong comeback in Game 5 after the Game 2 loss.
However, the Kobe Bryant’s follower has struggled significantly in the first two games, averaging just 14 points and four assists per game. His shooting has been a particular area of concern, with a field goal percentage of only 35.1%. The Mavs star also has failed to make a single 3-pointer, going 0-of-8 from beyond the arc across both games.

“First thing of that is just accepting that I haven’t played well or up to my standards, as well as I would have liked. Being back in Boston, there’s such a level of desire that I have inside of me to play well. Wanted to be there for my teammates. As a competitor, it’s frustrating,” Irving said.
Despite the early setbacks in the Finals, Dallas fans can draw inspiration from Irving’s Cleveland Cavaliers stint. In 2016, Irving and the Cleveland team faced a similar scenario. They were down 2-0 and 3-1 against the 73-win Golden State Warriors before mounting a historic comeback to win the championship.
