The career of 2012 Houston Rockets 1st-round pick Royce White didn’t pan out the way he may have hoped as he only played 3 games as off-the-court issues ultimately defined his short-lived career.
In December of 2016, White signed with the London Lightning of the Canadian basketball league, but now he’s dropping the basketball for good and is set to try his hand at Mixed Martial Arts.
On Wednesday, White released his newest book, MMA x NBA: A Critique of Modern Sport in America that announced his transition into the octagon.
Not only does White want to make it to the UFC, he truly thinks he could compete for the UFC’s heavyweight belt in the future.
“I’m one of the best athletes in the world,” White told ESPN’s Kevin Arnovitz. “Among the NBA community, part of my appeal as a draft prospect was my unique size, athleticism, vision and that I probably have one of the 10 biggest set of hands in the NBA. I think all of those things will translate beautifully to the UFC.”
White said he has been training for “six or seven months.”
