Montrezl Harrell played some of his best basketball during his three years with the Los Angeles Clippers. However, he recalls the moment the team decided to let him go. The former NBA player recently revealed a shocking incident when he had an argument with the Clippers’ star player.
Harrell discusses the Clippers’ loss after blowing a 3-1 lead and blames Paul George for not fulfilling his defensive responsibilities. According to The Players’ Tribune, Harrell threatened to confront teammate George during a huddle due to a miscommunication during the Clippers’ second-round loss to the Denver Nuggets in the 2020 NBA playoffs.
“I get back — we’re basically in the playoffs. Fast forward, and we’re in the middle of a game versus Denver. We set up a play. Everybody says they’re switching one through five type shit. Everybody knows coverage. Then in the game, the situation comes. It’s in the pick-and-roll with PG, Jamal Murray, Jokić, and me. The screen comes, and I yell, “Switch!” We switch it. He still fights over the screen. Jokić slips down the middle of the lane — boom — shoots and gets the points. Doc calls a time-out just like that. On the way over to the huddle, I say, “Bro, that’s a switch, P.” He’s like, “No, I thought—” And I’m like, “Bro, ain’t no ‘I thought.’” I said, “It’s a switch, bro. Everybody in this shit knows the coverage but you.” He was like, “Hey, who are you talking to?” Harrell said during an interview with The Players’ Tribune.
Harrell Admits Regret Over Argument With George
Harrell had an argument and mentioned that he told George he would knock him out in front of his teammates and coaches. The former NBA player blamed him for the incident. However, he later realized that he had gone too far in the heat of the moment.
“Alright, with that in mind…. I told P right then and there, in front of coaches and everybody, “I will knock you the fuck out, bro. You’re trippin’. You were wrong, bro. You’re WRONG.” I can look back on that now and realize I went too far in the heat of the moment. I realize this is a business and you can’t talk like that to the star player. But when you’re going through grief, you only see what’s right in front of you.” Harrell added during an interview with The Players’ Tribune.
After becoming a free agent recently, Paul George has been rumored to be considering offers from multiple NBA teams. The six-time member of the All-NBA Team was approached by several teams, including the Golden State Warriors. However, George ultimately accepted an offer from the Philadelphia 76ers. Recently, on his own podcast “P with Paul George,” PG-13 opened up about the failed trade with the Warriors.
