Luka Doncic and Jaren Jackson began their NBA careers 2018 and entered the league as top prospects. Doncic was selected as the third overall pick by the Atlanta Hawks but was quickly traded to the Dallas Mavericks. Meanwhile, Jackson was picked fourth overall by the Memphis Grizzlies.
Jackson recently appeared on the NBA 2K25. During the appearance, he recalled his first encounter with Doncic before the 2018 NBA Draft.
“January of the first year. I didn’t know who he was, but when we got on the draft bus… It’s like your first time seeing this guy everyone’s talking about, like this myth,” Jackson recalled.
Since being drafted, Doncic has significantly impacted the league by performing like a seasoned star. Last season, he led the Mavericks to the NBA Finals for the first time in 13 years, though they ultimately fell short of the title against the Boston Celtics. In 2K25, Jackson expressed his awe at Doncic’s rapid rise.
“Everything else has just been insane. He looks like he’s been in the league [for] like 100 years,” Jackson added.

“He plays like a 35-year-old: a great basketball IQ; what he sees on the court, I’ve never seen before. He knows how to handle the big moments. We talk about basketball often, but I don’t need to teach him anything,” Nowitzki said.
“He has amazing talent and game. It was fun to see his transition to the NBA. The beginning of something special, we have witnessed his greatness,” the former NBA star added.
Nowitzki was the first and last to lead the Mavs to their lone NBA title. Inspired by Nowitzki’s legacy, Doncic is expected to aim for a strong comeback season.
