The 2023 NBA Draft lottery, otherwise known as the Victor Wembanyama Sweepstakes, took place this Tuesday night. So we now know where the young Frenchman is going to play next season, unless something outlandish happens between now and the upcoming draft.
The San Antonio Spurs have gotten that No. 1 overall pick, meaning Gregg Popovich won’t be going anywhere anytime soon if he was ever considering retirement. But it appears ESPN leaked the pick by accident, as you can see in the video below, with a fan explaining what happened.
“ESPN accidentally leaked Spurs #1, check the bottom of the card and you can see the Spurs logo as the E&Y guy walks to the stage,” the Twitter user wrote.
Of course, this is likely just a mistake, and you can bet the Spurs won’t mind at all.
The Dallas Mavericks, another Texas-based team, are picking at 10th, yet they’re still thought to be the lottery’s winners.
The first nine picks went as expected, with all of the receiving teams remaining in the position they were in ahead of the lottery. And it appears the Mavs’ plan to throw it in towards the end of the regular season paid off.

Had they gotten booted from the top 10, their pick would have gone to the New York Knicks because of their trade for Kristaps Porzingis in 2019. But they’re now poised to pair another top 10 pick with Luka Doncic.
As for Wembanyama, his arrival is greatly anticipated. We can’t wait to see what he brings to the NBA.
