Russell Westbrook had a strong season with the Los Angeles Clippers. Following his trade to the Nuggets, he, too, enjoyed a fantastic offseason. The Los Angeles Clippers sent him to the Utah Jazz in a sign-and-trade that sent Kris Dunn to Los Angeles. The Jazz promptly dismissed him, and he subsequently inked a contract to play for Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets.
Although Russell’s career has been fantastic overall, he isn’t the same player. The veteran is still a capable creator and finisher at the rim, but his long-range shooting is lacking. Brian Windhorst of ESPN recently said something brutally honest about Westbrook.
Tim Bontemps said, “Their fourth-leading volume shooter was Reggie Jackson, who actually shot it pretty well. That’s the one thing he did well. They replaced him with Russell Westbrook who is literally the worst volume three-point shooter in the history of the NBA.”
To this Brian Windhorst replied, “I would’t let him shoot any more threes ever again quite honestly.” (starts at 16:46)
Westbrook used to be one of the NBA’s top players. The 2017 MVP has never been a consistent three-point shooter, so the Nuggets must monitor his addition carefully.
Off the bench, he may provide the club with a great spark. But the Nuggets must shoot to allow Nikola Jokic, the 2024 MVP, to stretch the floor.

Russell Westbrook has had trouble choosing his shots for the past several years. In any case, he should add experience and depth to Denver’s backcourt. After all, the 35-year-old has spent significant time with the Association.

One of the hardest workers in the NBA, Westbrook trains for the next season throughout most of the offseason. The NBA and basketball trainer Chris Brickley recently published a video of Westbrook honing his skills in New York.
The seasoned point guard can be seen shooting in this video from all around the floor, including the floater range, which is not where he typically shoots. With his quickness, ability to create plays and defensive prowess, Westbrook hopes to change the dynamic in Denver and help the Nuggets find a role that has been lacking.
