The Miami Heat wrapped up last season with a 46-36 record, finishing 8th in the Eastern Conference. However, their championship hopes were cut short when they lost to the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference First Round, 4-1. The Heat struggled in the series, especially with star player Jimmy Butler sidelined due to an MCL injury.
But watching the Celtics win the NBA championship has sparked a different mindset for the team as they head into the offseason. Head coach Erik Spoelstra acknowledged that Boston’s success has pushed the Heat to raise their game.
“Losing to Boston and seeing them win, that offers a little bit of different motivation in the offseason. I think we were all able to get time away—understand that we’re going to have to come together and get to a higher level,” Spoelstra said.
“That’s what happens when a team wins a championship. They force you to raise your level, and that’s what we’re looking forward to out of our group,” he added.

“Lots of weird stuff was going on, though. I wasn’t sure what it was about, but Jimmy didn’t dress with us. That season, he was always dressing with the coaches and didn’t stay in the locker room,” Rose wrote.
“Got to say, I never did see that before. To separate yourself from the team. How the hell do you think we’re a team when that’s going on? Of course, I got the blame,” he added.
It’ll remain to be seen how Butler responds to Rose’s criticism.
