The Miami Heat ended up in a disastrous 121-114 defeat against the Orlando Magic. The loss had head coach Erik Spoelstra come clean on his emotions and take the responsibility. The Heat had a comfy lead, going up by as much as 25 points, but somehow ended up fumbling in the final moments.
Meanwhile, the Magic found their groove and made more than half of their shots. Spoelstra pointed out that Orlando’s defense stepped up on time. They put pressure on the Heat and forced them to make mistakes. He also mentioned that when Miami finally got open looks, they weren’t able to knock them down.
“They stepped up their defense, they got stops. That’s what they do. We started to try to self-will a little bit versus that pressure, that led to turnovers. And then when we did get open looks, we weren’t in a rhythm and you’re feeling a little bit of the momentum shift. It’s tough to knock those down,” Spoelstra said.
Last night, Kel'el Ware played 14 minutes and had a team-high +26 in his minutes.

Erik Spoelstra on Ware's minutes: "I thought he was really good…..Ideally, if everything plays out, Kel'el finishes the game. But the momentum shifted so fast." pic.twitter.com/lwlDxxPK8Z
However, it was a massive disappointment for him, as Coach Spo had big goals this season. “These are tough lessons that we all have to learn,” he added.
Although, the fourth quarter was a real nightmare for the Heat. They couldn’t buy a bucket and shoot only two for 18 from the field. And this loss was particularly frustrating, especially since the Heat had just come off a four-game winning streak. Now, sitting at 13-13 and facing a tough stretch, Spoelstra knows they need to get back to work and regroup before their next game against the Brooklyn Nets.

Erik Spoelstra And Heat Struggle Without Jimmy Butler
The Heat were hopeful of their new composition without Jimmy Butler, but it did not work. They were forced to forge a new starting lineup that had never played together before. Dru Smith and Nikola Jovic were in unfamiliar roles, which, somehow or the other, cost them much.
Erik Spoelstra and Miami faced significant challenges during the contest against the Magic, particularly with Jimmy Butler sidelined due to illness. However, this marked the fifth different starting lineup in just 26 games. This latest arrangement had the coach accepting the difficulty himself.
“It was a little bit different because of their frontline size and we’re built for it without Jimmy that we can just slide Niko in there, particularly now that he’s healthy. I thought those minutes helped us in terms of size. It wasn’t anything against H. The dynamic changes if Jimmy is out. And who we play, it was a different kind of team with a big frontline,” Spoelstra admitted.
The unfamiliarity among players was evident during the game, as the newly formed unit struggled to maintain their lead and got outscored by the Magic.
