Dwyane Wade made a big financial decision this week.
Wade is supporting his hometown sports scene by joining the WNBA’s Chicago Sky ownership group. The three-time NBA champion made the official announcement on Friday.
“It’s an incredible feeling being on this side of history. To see growth, on the business side, for something that I’ve been passionate about my whole life is an amazing feeling,” Wade wrote on an Instagram post. “There are amazing things happening in the @WNBA. It’s official! This is for the home team.”
The former NBA star and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame class of 2023 inductee reportedly bought a stake in the WNBA franchise on Friday, according to ESPN’s Alexa Philippou.
Wade’s investment is subject to approval from the WNBA board of governors.
Other high-profile male athletes have also recently become part-owners in the WNBA and they include Tom Brady buying part of the Las Vegas Aces and former MLB star Alex Rodriguez’s ownership group acquired the Minnesota Lynx in a 2021 deal.

It was last month when the franchise sold 10% of the Sky to a group of eight investors for $85 million.
This is not the first time the three-time NBA champion invested in a sports franchise as he is also part of ownership groups for the Utah Jazz, as well as MLS’ Real Salt Lake.
