A blockbuster trade proposal has the Golden State Warriors sending All-Star and fan favorite Draymond Green to a top rival team.
Green has opted out of his contract and is eligible to enter free agency, though the Warriors are still a front-runner for his services. If the two sides can’t agree on an extension, the best bet would be to work on a sign-and-trade scenario.
At NBA Analysis Network, James Piercey proposed a blockbuster trade that would see the Warriors dealing the defensive stalwart to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Malik Beasley, Mo Bamba and a 2029 first-round pick:
“The Warriors are not getting market value for Green here. We realize that.
That’s because this is a sign-and-trade. If the Warriors don’t agree to it, they’ll lose Green for nothing. Their backs are against the wall here.
With that in mind, this is…something. Beasley is a strong movement shooter who should be impactful in the Warriors’ system. Bamba gives them a new wrinkle as a floor-spacing big who can defend the rim as well.
Meanwhile, this pick may be lottery protected. It’s still got some value. If nothing else, this is better than the alternative of watching Green leave for nothing.”
The 33-year-old Green has spent his entire career with the Warriors, who drafted him 35th overall back in 2012. Green, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson have gone on to form one of the NBA’s great dynasties, leading the Dubs to six NBA Finals appearances and four championships (2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022).
Losing Green would hurt the Warriors sentimentally, but they’re also in a difficult cap situation and may be hesitant to commit top dollar to him. But again, Golden State can’t risk losing him for nothing, and that’s why Piercey’s trade proposal here makes good sense for both sides.

But if the Warriors were to explore a sign-and-trade scenario, there would be several teams interested in his services. And it’s unclear if the Warriors would be keen on dealing Green to a competitive rival who eliminated them in the second round of the postseason.
