Klay Thompson played 13 years with the Golden State Warriors alongside Draymond Green and Stephen Curry. This trio dominated the league for several years, leading the team to four championships. However, during the 2024 offseason, their partnership came to an end when Thompson joined the Dallas Mavericks.
In a recent game, Thompson faced his former teammates, Green and Curry. After the match, Green spoke to reporters about what it was like to compete against Thompson. Reporters were also interested in exploring the dynamics of Green’s relationship with Thompson.
“I saw him. I told him ‘Way to shoot.’ As far as keeping in touch…you ever tried to keep in touch with Klay? It’s a very one-sided thing. The love is there, the relationship is there. I’ll get back in touch after the season. We’ll both be in LA and we’ll kick it and spend some time together. But I’m not adding more gray hairs to myself just trying to chase Klay down.” Green said in a post-game press conference (Via Anthony Slater of the Athletic.)
Spectators at Chase Center enjoyed many thrilling moments, including Thompson’s Shimmy move for Curry. Ultimately, the Warriors achieved a narrow 120-117 victory, primarily due to Curry’s outstanding performance.
Green Previews Thompson’s Tribute Video To Stay Composed
Although the trio broke after Thompson’s exit from the team, both Green and Curry maintain deep admiration for their former teammate. In their recent matchup against the Mavericks, the Warriors paid homage to Thompson with a heartfelt tribute video. However, Green implemented a strategy to remain composed while viewing the emotional tribute on the court.
“I watched the tribute video earlier… I just didn’t want to deal with those emotions [during the game] because A, there’s a love for Klay that ain’t going anywhere. And B, watching his reruns, you are a part of it. So you start getting emotional like, ‘Oh man, I remember.’ ‘Hey, on that playoff run, we had to do this, overcome this.’ You start to go down those lanes.” Green said in a post-game press conference (Via Anthony Slater of the Athletic).
