After missing out on the game vs the Mavs due to a back problem, Draymond Green utilized his time by providing exactly what the fans wanted and that was his hot take on everything happening around the hoop. The 34-year-old often creates headlines with his questionable on-court antics but when it comes to providing entertaining input on the game, he does not fail to amaze.
The robust forward has now set sights on the talk of the town, Victor Wembanyama, again but this time his tone is a bit different.
Draymond Green backs Victor Wembanyama for MVP
Draymond Green has always made headlines with his out-of-the-box views and the Golden State Warriors forward has done it again. After declaring that Victor Wembanyama does not deserve to win the DPOY title this year, Green has recently flipped his statement.
On his podcast “The Draymond Green Show“, the 4-time NBA champion said, “Victor Wembanyama is probably a top-20 player in the NBA right now”. Praising the youngster Green continued, “With that skillset, with that length, with that jump shot — his jump shot is absolutely beautiful — In San Antonio with that staff, that kid, watch out.”
In his rookie year, budding star Wemby has, to some extent, taken over the league with his mesmerizing performance. The French block machine has impressed everyone with his displays throughout the season and there are many who showered him with praise and called him the future face of the NBA, the ever-vocal Green had a slightly different view earlier, however, the 2017 DPOY winner has a change of mind now and thinks he is ready to clash with Nikola Jokic, who is the current favorite MVP candidate.

Despite the San Antonio Spurs being at the bottom of the Western Conference table with a 14-52 record, Wemby has showcased his versatility in terms of defense and offense, which certainly places him among the best defenders this season.
Draymond highlights gap between Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren
It is no secret that there is an on-court rivalry between the NBA newbies, Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren, in the Rookie of the Year title race. Both of them have shown immense potential on the floor but there can be only one winner and Green seems to be clear about his choice.
The 2017 Defensive Player Of the Year feels that Wemby can fool people into thinking that he is weak because of his skinny structure but he is comparatively strong. Green said, “He does everything the right way, he cares about basketball, he wants to be great.”
Calling both the rookies good players, Green emphasized on the gap between them and has clearly sided with Wemby. “I think Chet Holmgren is a very good player and I know there’s been this comparison among those two. Chet Holmgren is going to be a problem but I will tell you, I think there’s a gap in between Chet Holmgren and Victor Wembanyama. I honestly believe that there is a gap,” said Green.
Chet Holmgren is averaging 16.8 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists while shooting at 53.6% from the floor and a little over 39% from the 3-point range, with his team, the Oklahoma City Thunder, at the top of the Western table. Whereas, Victor Wembanyama is averaging 20.7 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 3.4 blocks while shooting at 46.7% from the floor and a little over 33.3% from the 3-point arc.
The gap between the two respective teams is the only thing that can have a massive repercussion for Victor Wembanyama in the end-of-season award.
