Draymond Green and Stephen Curry have been crucial players behind the Golden State Warriors success in recent years. Along with Klay Thompson, who recently signed a contract with the Dallas Mavericks, Curry and Green clinched four titles for the franchise.
However, in the season following their fourth championship, a rookie player became irritating to Curry. During a recent appearance on the Club 520 podcast, Green told a story about the rookie season of Indiana Pacers point guard Andrew Nembhard.
During the game between the Warriors and the Pacers on December 5, 2022, in the 2022-23 NBA season, Nembhard delivered an exceptional performance. Meanwhile, Curry, often regarded as the best shooter in NBA history, had a disappointing performance, scoring only 12 points, with 4 rebounds and 6 assists.
“Suppose you go back to the 2022-23 season, which would be Nembhard’s rookie year. If you go back and watch the game when we played the Pacers in the Bay, Nembhard gave us hell. You hear me? Complete hell. And he was talking so crazy.” Green said.
Green mentioned that Nembhard was speaking erratically to Curry and Green. In the end, the Warriors lost the game 112-104.
Nembhard’s Incredible Shots Have Posed Challenges for Curry and Green
Green claimed that Curry had been guarding Nembhard in that game. Curry was taken aback by some of Nembhard’s astounding shots and had trouble playing on the court because of Nembhard’s extraordinary skill.

“And Steph was guarding him. And the shots he was hitting, Steph would just turn and look like, yo, what? And so he was talking so crazy. So in turn, what you then did was, every time that guy see you now, And he at you now. But y’all have a hard time with us because Steph got an issue. Warriors in four versus the Pacers. I don’t really know if there’s any way to fix the issue, except for him to stop playing basketball. Because every time he sees Nembhard, it’s over. It’s a wrap.” Green added.
In the 2023-24 NBA season, Green and Curry had a disappointing year. The Warriors did not make it to the playoffs and were eliminated in the play-in tournament. According to StatMuse, the four-time NBA All-Star averaged 8.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 6.0 assists in 55 games.
