Head coach Steve Kerr of the Golden State Warriors has been surprising fans from the start of the 2024-25 NBA season with his strategic decisions. Initially, he opted for a 12-man rotation and later chose to have Draymond Green come off the bench to provide more focus on Jonathan Kuminga. However, Kuminga’s role has remained inconsistent even after Kerr’s decision.
During the recent press conference, Green discussed switching positions to help Kuminga adapt to the current Warriors squad. He emphasized that his main focus is on winning games rather than individual roles. However, he acknowledged that he would probably have to play more center than he would prefer to incorporate Kuminga into additional lineups.
“I’ll be honest — I didn’t want to play a ton of 5. It’s hard. We were 12-3 or whatever we were, and it was working. But it’s not working, you have to look at what works. And if that’s me at the 5, like I said, I don’t love it for entire games at this point. But I love to win, and more importantly, I hate to lose. So if that’s what it looks like, that’s what it looks like. We got to win games, or I told the guys we’re all going to get traded out of here, so we better win some games,” Green said (Via Anthony Slater of the Athletic).

Despite the changes to their rotation, the Warriors are facing challenges during the 2024-25 NBA season. Currently, they are in the 10th spot in the Western Conference standings with 16 wins and 15 losses.
Draymond Green Shares Thoughts On Jonathan Kuminga’s Recent Performances
In the last two games, Jonathan Kuminga came off the bench and showcased impressive skills. In the 102-92 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, he scored 34 points, five assists and 10 rebounds. Moreover, in the recent 109-105 victory against the Phoenix Suns, he recorded another 34 points, 3 assists, and 9 rebounds. During the post-game press conference, Green reflected on Kuminga’s outstanding performances.
“Even when he’s on the floor with Steph, we’re all looking for him…You know, he had 3 assists tonight. That’s cool but bottom line is we don’t need him to average much more than that. Go score the basketball, and that’s what he’s doing for us,” Green said (Via Anthony Slater of the Athletic).
