Klay Thompson joined the Dallas Mavericks in the offseason after playing 13 seasons with the Golden State Warriors. His departure broke up the dominant trio of star players, including Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. As the new season begins without Thompson, Green reflects on the moment he realized that the four-time NBA champion would be leaving the team.
During a recent interview with Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN, Green mentioned the exact moment he felt Thompson was gone. The Warriors forward received a call from Thompson in late June in California while he was driving with his wife to an assembly for his daughter.
Green had never had small conversations with Thompson, but that day, they only talked for five minutes, which made him anxious. Green suddenly said to his wife, “He gone. He didn’t say nothing yet. But he gone”
During the interview, Green noted that Thompson revealed his intention to explore free agency during the upcoming offseason. When Green inquired about his plans, Thompson elaborated that he was considering a move to the Dallas Mavericks.
Draymond Green Reveals His Mentality About Playing Against Thompson This Season
In a later part of the interview, Green was questioned about his mindset when playing against Thompson in the first matchup of the 2024-25 NBA season. The four-time NBA champion mentioned that he would focus on Thompson more than any other opponent.
“I’m going to run through his chest. Because I used to run through my older brother’s chest when we played. There’s always this public disdain over me and Bron’s brotherhood. I try to kill him more than anybody. I take him out. And vice versa. That’s what it is. I’m more apt to run through his chest than Kyrie,” Green told ESPN.
