Draymond Green has put forth a compelling argument that Stephen Curry is a true point guard. While not everybody would agree with his analysis, most of them will. Steph has been consistently posing a challenge for opposing defenses. And with a career three-point shooting percentage of 42%, he surely has an edge.
During his recent podcast episode, Green emphasized that the conventional role of a shooting guard typically involves less playmaking and more focus on scoring. And that does not adequately capture Curry’s impact on the game. Instead, he pointed out that Curry’s superior dribbling and decision-making skills allow him to serve as the primary ball handler for the Golden State Warriors.
“Number one, shooting guards didn’t shoot off the dribble. When you talk about prototypical shooting guards, most prototypical shooting guards was one or two dribbles, get to they spot, and pulling up. One or two bounces to the cup—that was a two-guard,” Green said. [Mark: 50:15]
As per Green, what sets Curry apart is getting an unprecedented level of defensive attention along with his shooting rows.
“Here’s the thing: when you talk about why he’s a point guard is the amount of coverages that he’s seen and had to read—like quarterbacks read coverages, point guards read coverages— the amount of coverages that Steph has had to read and being guarded…no, Bron has not seen, Kobe has not seen, MJ has not seen,” he added.
Moreover, Curry has definitely changed what a point guard can do on the court. He has been accredited for his insane three-point shooting.

Draymond Green Names His Biggest Failure At Warriors
While the Warriors have Curry at the helm, the team’s leadership revolves around him and Green. However, Dray recently opened up about his own challenges at the camp. Green shared his thoughts on what he regards as his largest leadership failure during his tenure with the team.
In an honest discussion on the Two Cents podcast with Penny Hardaway, Green recounted the regrettable incident involving a physical altercation with teammate Jordan Poole at training camp in October 2022.
“I will say I was kind of thrust into a vet role before I was ready to handle it. Before I knew what it took to handle it, I failed miserably. One of my biggest failures as a vet was what happened with Jordan Poole. It took me going through that failure with someone who chose to be close to me—someone who picked his locker next to mine because he wanted to learn from me,” Draymond said.

He candidly admitted that he was not fully prepared for the responsibilities that came with being a veteran leader. The fallout from the altercation resonated throughout the Warriors organization and created a challenging atmosphere during the subsequent season.
