A new piece from The Ringer has revealed that Draymond Green completely avoided Jordan Poole after punching him in practice last year and refused all of the Warriors’ attempts to get them back on the same page.
Golden State would end up having to choose between Green and Poole in the offseason and ultimately stuck with the veteran, trading the younger star to the Washington Wizards.
According to the aforementioned publication, while Green was willing to discuss the incident on various platforms, he never spoke directly to the guard, upsetting folks in his circle. And even after head coach Steve Kerr tried getting them to hash it out, the four-time Champion declined advances.
“The divide widened as Green, who declined comment for this story, accepted several invitations to speak on the situation during last season, but never spoke with Poole directly, angering many within Poole’s inner circle,” The Ringer reports.
“According to Warriors officials, head coach Steve Kerr made several attempts to convince Green to take Poole to dinner, to smooth over their relationship, but Green declined.”
Many are of the view that the altercation, more so the fact that it was leaked, affected results on the court and ended up in the then-defending champions making an early playoff exit.
Both players have addressed the incident in the media since it took place, but they apparently never got to speak about it because Green simply wasn’t willing to.
