LeBron James and Drake have been like those two friends who hang out together but can get over each other’s mind anytime. While LeBron has kept a low-key on his open support for either Kendrick Lamar or Drake, the Canadian rapper seems to take open shots now.
Recently, Drake escalated his ongoing feud with James during a recent concert in Perth, Australia. He was performing his track “Nonstop” in the concert when he cleverly flipped the lines. Initially, the song contained the lyric, “How I go from 6 to 23 like I’m LeBron?” However, Drake altered this line to “How I go from 6 to 23, but not LeBron, man.”

Drake’s recent release of the freestyle “Fighting Irish” appears to have exacerbated the friction between him and LeBron. The “God’s Plan” singer seemed to take direct shots at the Los Angeles Lakers superstar. In this track, he referenced trading watches, a known ritual between the two, but also hinted that LeBron might have played a part in unraveling their relationship.
While Drake has stopped short of explicitly stating that the song is about LeBron, the subtleties within the lyrics and the title evoke their shared history. Interestingly, LeBron’s high school team was called the Fighting Irish. Although, LeBron indirectly showed his support for Kendrick Lamar during a past concert. Lamar performed his diss track “Not Like Us” aimed at Drake, and that has likely influenced the cooling of LeBron’s friendship with the rapper.

“It was definitely a weird, uncomfortable, truth moment for us. Just knowing that he was going to be gone, that was very, very difficult. Very challenging. I can see how in shock he was, obviously. And he probably saw it from my face as well,” James said.

The transition would obviously bring a profound sense of loss, as he noted the difficulty in knowing that Davis, who he had recruited to the Lakers and with whom he won a championship in 2020, would no longer be by his side.
“We literally became brothers over the last five years. What we were able to accomplish on the floor obviously goes without saying. More importantly, what we were able to accomplish on the floor was growing our families, seeing each other grow, and seeing each other grow; it was pretty unique. Obviously, I was at his wedding when he got married. It was special for sure,” LeBron added.
He also recounted a dinner he had with his family after a victory against the New York Knicks. He revealed that his feelings were a mix of sadness for losing a teammate and joy for the family-like connection they shared, including attending Davis’ wedding.
