Being the son of LeBron James comes with extra pressure when trying to make a name for yourself in the same sport. The same is the case with Bronny James, who is set to go in the 2024 NBA Draft. As the date for the draft nears, the media scrutiny is raised several folds. Now, NASCAR champion Ryan Blaney has opened up about the pressure exerted on the 19-year-old.
During a recent interview with Fox News Digital, Blaney touched on the matter of expectations on the young shoulders of Bronny James. Coming from a family of famous motorists, Blaney knows exactly how James Jr. must be feeling. “He has more pressure on him than I ever did,” Blaney said. “I mean, being LeBron James’ kid, one of the greatest basketball players ever to do it, that’s a ton of pressure. That’s, like, another level.”
“I think those kids — I’m 30 now — I see those 18-year-old kids with high expectations that are just thrust on their shoulders. Everyone wants them to be perfect. They’re kids. Don’t expect too much of them. Just let them do their thing. Let them grow, be who they want to be”, added the son of Dave Blaney, who has 473 NASCAR races under his belt.
The world is fixated on seeing Bronny team up with his legendary father in the same team. However, despite his impressive showings at the NBA Draft Combine, he is not expected to be among the top picks. Having him drafted to attract LeBron James is a common game plan among some franchises, including the Lakers, but that is not the ultimate goal for his agent.
Agent Not Focused on Teaming Bronny James With His Dad
LeBron James’ agent, Rich Paul, is also the agent of the USC guard. Regarding his future, Paul has much to decide, and he has already decided that his client will not be up for a two-way contract.
“LeBron’s season’s over. I’m focused on Bronny and the rest of our draft class. If it aligns where he can play with his dad, great. Am I necessarily focused on that? No, not at all,” Rich Paul told Bleacher Report.

“I’m focused on a team plan investment and a seriousness as it pertains to fit and opportunity”, he added.
Bronny recently attended the Klutch Sports Pro Day and is set to meet the Suns. The Phoenix franchise currently possesses the 22nd pick, and whether they’ll use it to bring in Bronny is up for debate.
