The Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has been a dominant force behind the team’s recent success. According to StatMuse, the 23-year-old averaged 25.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists in 79 games in the 2023-24 season. However, Edwards faced heavy criticism from several analysts, players, and former NBA players due to his controversial statement about legendary player Michael Jordan and his era players.
Paul George, who recently joined the Philadelphia 76ers, called Edwards’ comment immature. Additionally, during a recent appearance on Podcast P with Paul George, Sacramento Kings forward DeMar DeRozan criticized Edwards for his controversial remarks about the Chicago Bulls legend.
“By far, but even some like that, we never would have made any statement like that. You see what I’m saying? Regardless, at the end of the day, I respect every OG who ever played this game. This game was built on a foundation of taking steps from wherever it came from. I never discredit wherever the league was at 20 years ago, because it’s all about elevating… But if you look at it back then, those guys still were incredible. They still was.” DeRozan said.
Anthony Edwards delivered exceptional performances that propelled Minnesota to the conference finals. The Ant-Man’s team triumphed over the Phoenix Suns in the first round of the playoffs and the Denver Nuggets in the second round. However, they were ultimately defeated by the Dallas Mavericks in the conference finals. Despite his contributions to the team, he faced criticism for his remarks about the Bulls legend.
Anthony Edwards’s controversial statement about Jordan
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal on August 19, Edwards mentioned that the legendary player Michael Jordan was the only player who had exceptional skills during his time. Ant-Man added that most athletes today have the same abilities as Jordan.
“I didn’t watch it back in the day so I can’t speak on it. They say it was tougher back then than it is now, but I don’t think anybody had skill back then. (Jordan) was the only one that really had skill, you know what I mean? So that’s why when they saw Kobe, they were like, ‘Oh, my God.’ But now everybody has skill.” Anthony Edwards said.
